Running from the heat: Walnut Creek

With the Sand Fire blowing smoke and ashes almost 60 miles into our neck of the woods, Saturday’s hikers headed to  a creek-side trail running from San Dimas to Covina.  It used to be called the Walnut Creek Trail but has been co-opted and renamed  by our  county royalty, Michael Antonovich.  We walked under oak and black walnut trees  periodically fed by outflow from Puddingstone reservoir in Bonelli Park.   We found placid ponds and gentle reflections along the route.

As we finished the hike, my phone reported the creekside temperature to be 87 degrees Fahrenheit.  Five miles away  in the carpool lot in La Verne, it was 98 degrees.
